Pumping up the Performance

It's very interesting to find a lot of different theories behind "Performance Upgrades". You can change the air filter and feel the change in throttle response and you may even see a small improvement in mileage. That is a simple and basic change that improves the airflow to the engine. Changing to a mandrel bent (maintains uniform diameter through out) stainless steel exhaust system not only improves the engine's ability to breathe but it carries waste heat away from the engine more efficiently, which helps to extend the life of your investment.

Once the engine can breathe, anything else you do to it, an example being computer upgrade (chip or power box), injectors, supercharger or turbocharger etc.., will allow for use of your engine's full potential. We'll mention here that all engines out there are de-tuned from the factory, for reasons unknown except to the manufacturers. When an engine is 'freed up' to perform to it's full potential the ability to work becomes easier allowing you to pull the hills with less effort and, when the accelerator pedal is used lightly, improvements in mileage will follow.

Let's not forget that performance is not limited to just the engine... oh no... Today's automatic transmissions can use a little help as well. Increasing fluid capacity and controlling its lock up sequence will provide better control and reduce trans temps, increasing reliability and extending it's service life. The suspension and chassis can be improved upon so that your vehicle handles better, giving greater control over the road... especially if you're pulling a trailer, or loading up on building materials... Now we can get off the line pretty quick, how about stopping... yes, stopping is good. If your diesel needs help keeping that 32ft trailer in check Gail Banks Engineering has an exhaust brake to hold that load back, saving your service brakes for when you really need them. It is also a fact that the addition of an exhaust brake can extend the life of your trucks service brakes up to three times by reducing wear on pads, shoes, drums and rotors. The nice thing about a Banks Brake is, by design, it adds horsepower without restricting the exhaust!

The possibilities are endless......
